Friday, May 16th, 2014Photography Courtesy Of: Anton Legoo, of Portland Street Art Alliance
Drowntown (Love Letters From a Degenerate) opened May 1st, 2014 at Upper Playground Portland with new and select works from artist N.O. Bonzo The show features paintings and traditional printmaking techniques incorporating post industrial pigments of rust and oxidized copper. Echoing the artists outdoor installation aesthetic, blight and decay create the backdrop for strong archetypal female figures and narratives.
The show coincided with the release of her book DrownTown,
collecting select works from 2012 and 2013, and documenting a narrative and visual exploration of personal themes: mental illness; gender identity; and suicide in Portland, Oregon. Incorporating metal leaf and hand mixed inks, the artist’s large-scale, hand painted installations populate the city’s riverfront and bridges. DrownTown is a collection of illustrated love letters from a degenerate and stretched across an urban landscape.

Sunday, March 10th, 2013PEELED: Hill Hudson Solo Show – Portland, OR – Feb 7th, 2012
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013FIFTY24PDX Gallery and Upper Playground are proud to present Peeled: a show featuring the dark and detailed work of Portland artist Hill Hudson.
Bringing the cross hatch back one line at a time, Hill Hudson has been professionally throwing ink at paper for years as a Portland Oregon dwelling hipster. He is an illustrator backed by an epic overdose of graphic skateboarding, street art and comic book culture. Enthusiastically capturing very realistic yet stylized and controlled imagery, he’s breaking through the walls of a detailed, old-timey, quill and ink approach, to the popular wit of the new school zombie-loving era we live in. Hill has shown his work from galleries to coffee shops, Juxtapoz.com and zines littering the floors of nerdy kids rooms everywhere.
An opening reception for Peeled will be held First Thursday, February 7th 2013, from 6:00-10:00 PM. The show runs through March 30th 2013.
