Spoke Art presents P.T.V. – a group exhibition featuring members of the Bay Area graffiti crew Punks Thugs and Vandals. Including a diverse array of artistic styles, inspirations and backgrounds, the crew’s distinctive characters are familiar to Oakland and San Francisco locals, international travelers and beyond. Starting in 2007, following a San Francisco Department of Public works press conference proclaiming “It is currently up to the Punks, Thugs and Vandals what artwork goes up in the city,” a group of friends began writing the moniker as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the city’s stance on street art. Known for their characters and collaborative pieces, the members of P.T.V. blend styles and genres to find commonality between “punk, hiphop, ska, reggae and taking that same recipe into graffiti, politics and fine art.” PTV characters can be spotted close to home in Oakland and across the US and internationally in South America, South East Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
