MEMORIAL MURAL for Victims of Police Brutality – Oakland, CA

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

This week the Memorial Mural for those murdered by police in the Bay Area was restored after being disrespected.

As we all know, memorials are sacred and should be defended by everyone out of respect to the dead, their families and the greater movement against racial prejudice, trans-phobia and police brutality. This transcends graffiti politics and involves everyone.

Having the opportunity to display a political mural is very rare. The city, the police, and vigilantes are constantly trying to remove these murals.

If you are new to the Bay Area, please familiarize yourself with local history.

On November 5th 2010, at 5AM in the morning, the day of his 20th birthday, Jkat and Nektr where out on the Richmond tracks along the 580 freeway hitting the red mile. According to Nektr, they did their pieces and on the way back they heard an Amtrack train coming from behind them. They thought it was on the tracks they where on. Nektr ran right and got off the tracks, but Jkat ran left to the set of tracks in the middle thinking the train was to the right and as soon as he got onto the middle set of tracks he was hit and killed by Amtrack.

Jkat is missed dearly by his friends and family. The affect of his death careers out much further than the graffiti community.

Friday morning (11/05/2010) Sam Raushenbush, a local East Bay graffiti artist, was struck down by an Amtrak train on the tracks in Albany.

Here is a news article…

And here is another article about Sam’s life…

If someone would like to write up something more personal about Sam we would like to post it on Endless Canvas.

Please be careful out there everyone.

RIP KIDS DAC 4DC Graffiti San Francisco, CA.

I took this photo the other day in San Francisco. I was telling a friend how much I respect Kids DAC 4DC’s graffiti because I consistently see cutty tags of his from at least six years ago. These landmarks are more important than ever because I was told that KIDS passed away recently. Rest In Peace Kids.
